Patrick McEnroe will be U.S. Davis Cup captain for two more years as he received a contract extension on Monday.
During McEnroe's six years as captain, he has guided the U.S. squad to the Davis Cup final in 2004 and semi-final appearances in 2002 and this year.
"We feel we're knocking on the door with one remaining goal, which is to return the Davis Cup to the United States," said U.S. Tennis Associaiton (USTA) chief executive for pro tennis Arlen Kantarian, .
"We feel our chances are far greater with Patrick at the helm."
McEnroe has guided the U.S. squad to a 9-6 record but the Americans have not won the title since 1995, their longest championship drought since the competition began in 1900.
