A baby girl who was born aboard a Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways flight will be freed of charge on any airline of the carrier until 2024, London-based Middle East Online reported Thursday on its website edition.
On Wednesday, the baby was delivered by a traveling doctor and two crew members en route from Kuwait City to Alexandria, a northern Egypt city, the report said.
Heba Majdy, eight-month pregnant mother of the baby, had got doctor's permission before she boarded the aircraft. But she went into labor unexpectedly at an altitude of 30,000 feet and 50 minutes before it was due to reach the Mediterranean city.
The baby girl, named Nancy, was delivered by gynaecologist and maternity specialist Mohammed al-Saleh, who was a passenger going to Alexandria on vacation.
After the Airbus A320 landed in Alexandria, a medical team transported the mother and the newborn baby to hospital.
Marwan Boodia, Chairman of the Jazeera Airways, said later that the low-fare carrier has decided to offer the girl free flights until she turns 18.
