Polish film "Retrieval" has been nominated for the prestigious European Film Award in the Discovery 2006 category, film distributors from Kino Swiat company told PAP Wednesday.

The film is directed by Slawomir Fabicki and is the Polish choice for the Oscar nomination. It was awarded for best cinematography and best editing at the recent, 31st Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, northern Poland, and received the special mention of the Ecumenical Jury at the 56th Cannes Film Festival where it was enthusiastically applauded.

Fabicki made his name known in the cinema world abroad thanks to his film "A Man Thing," which won the Oscar nomination in 2001.

"Retrieval" tells the story of a teenage Silesian boy falling in love with a Ukrainian woman immigrant.

The European Film Awards ceremony will be held in Warsaw on December 2.
