A new human bird flu case was detected Tuesday in the Egyptian Delta governorate of Gharbiya, the first human case since mid-May, the official news agency MENA reported Wednesday.

MENA quoted Health Ministry spokesman Abdel-Rahman Shahin as saying that the case was a 39-year-old woman called Hanan Abul- Magd and was tested positive to the avian flu.

Shahin said the lady was admitted to hospital on Oct. 4, suffering from high temperature after contacting domestic birds. She was being treated after she was given the necessary vaccines.

Egypt found the first bird flu case in dead poultry on Feb. 17, and the virus then spread to 20 governorates of the country's 26 in total.

The populous country reported first human bird flu case on March 18. Since then, it has detected 14 human cases with the last case reported on May 18. Of the 14, six died while the rest recovered.
