Experts from the United Nations (UN) met Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in the Nepali capital Kathmandu Wednesday to discuss the latest progress in Nepal's peace process.
According to sources close to Koirala, the half an hour meeting focused on issues of the progress made in the recent high level talks, arms management of the arms to ensure safe and fair polls for the Constituent Assembly, a leading news media group's website eKantipur.com reported.
At the meeting, the UN experts inquired the prime minister about the ongoing talks with the guerrillas, progress of the talks and preparation for Constituent Assembly elections.
Koirala expressed the Nepali government's commitment to the restoration of peace in the country, the report said.
All four members of the UN team -- the personal representative of the UN Secretary General Ian Martin, political advisor Tamrat Samual, arms expert Jan Erick Wilhemson and election monitoring expert Ecaterina Salvu -- were present at the meeting.
According to the UN Information Center in Kathmandu, another UN official is to arrive Friday to study and assess the cease-fire code of conduct in Nepal.
