The Indonesian government will send 50 young athletes from various sports to Cuba for training as part of bilateral cooperation with the Caribbean country, State Minister of Youth and Sports Affair Adhyaksa Dault said Monday.

"The athletes are from athletics, boxing, fencing, gymnastics and volleyball. These are sports in which Cuba has world-class achievement," Antara news agency quoted Adhyaksa as saying.

"We will also send officials and coaches to accompany the young athletes."

Meanwhile, secretary to the state minister, Toho Cholik Mutohir said the athletes sent to Cuba were young, prospective ones and none of them were involved in long-term national training center.

"The contingent of 100 athletes, coaches and officials will be in Cuba for one year. We will keep sending athletes so there will be a continuation in the program.

As for coaches and officials, they will learn training system and technology being used in Cuba," said Toho.
