U.S. stocks edged higher on Tuesday, with the Dow setting record close high, as oil prices fell below 59 dollars.
In the closing trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 9. 36, or 0.08 percent, to close at a record high of 11,867.17. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.76, or 0.20 percent, to 1,353. 42, and the Nasdaq composite index climbed 3.66, or 0.16 percent, to 2,315.43.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average refurbished record highs for three straight sessions last week, amid mild economic data.
Crude prices fell below 59 dollars Tuesday as concern on OPEC output cutting eased.
New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in November, fell 1.44 dollars to close at 58. 52 dollars a barrel.
