Cyprus donated 100,000 U.S. dollars on Tuesday to Lebanon for its reconstruction work after the month long Israel-Hezbollah conflict, local media reported.

A cheque for this amount was handed over during a special ceremony here by Foreign Ministry Acting Permanent Secretary Alexandros Zenon to Lebanese Ambassador to Cyprus Michel El Khoury.

Khoury thanked Cyprus and its people for what they had done for Lebanon, adding that the cheque would be forwarded to the High Commission of Relief in Beirut.

Zenon said Cyprus had helped and would continue to help Lebanon in its post-conflict work, such as reconstruction and the dispatch of humanitarian aid.

Cyprus announced the donation at the World Donors Conference on Lebanon in Sweden in August. The conference received pledges of 940 million dollars in aid to Lebanon.

The conflict between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel, which started on July 12 and ended on Aug. 14, had caused great destruction of infrastructure in Lebanon and the death of about 1, 200 Lebanese, most civilians.
