вторник, 10 октября 2006 07:34:02

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya and visiting Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Ben Jassem al-Thani had ended a meeting late Monday night in Gaza.

Right after the meeting, al-Thani headed again to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' headquarters on Gaza beachside and held a second meeting with Abbas in less than three hours.

A Palestinian official, who spoke in condition of anonymity, disclosed that al-Thani had brought a Qatari initiative comprised of six points, and held shuttle meetings with Abbas and Haneya.

The official said that al-Thani was trying to bridge the gaps between Abbas and Haneya, where he presented his country's initiative to Haneya on forming a national unity government.

The official said that positive signs had been achieved in the meeting between al-Thani and Haneya. But neither Haneya nor al- Thani spoke to the press.

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources revealed the text of the Qatari initiative and said it consists of six points:

-- The new Palestinian national unity government has to express commitments to the international legitimate resolutions.

-- The new Palestinian national unity government should be committed to the agreements that Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) signed with Israel.

-- To guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 by Israel alongside the state of Israel as it has been mentioned in the speech of U.S. President George W. Bush.

-- To agree on ending all types and shapes of violence between Israel and the Palestinians mutually and at the same time.

-- Activating the PLO according to March 17, 2005 national dialogue agreement reached in Cairo.

-- PLO and the president of Palestinian National Authority (PNA) are in charge of the political file including the peace negotiations.
