Syria, Denmark discuss latest abuse of Prophet Mohammed by Danish youngsters

вторник, 10 октября 2006 07:20:07

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al- Muallem on Monday received a telephone call from his Danish counterpart Per Stig Moeller on the latest abuse of Prophet Mohammed by some Danish young men, the official SANA news agency reported.

The Danish minister conveyed his governments' condemnation of this conduct, defining it as unacceptable and ill-mannered, SANA said.

A Danish TV aired recently a video footage showing some members of the Danish People's Party taking part in a competition to draw images mocking the Prophet at a summer camp in August.

On Sunday, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen issued a statement condemning such a behavior, saying it was unacceptable and improper and never reflected the way the Danish people and youth view Islam and Muslims.

The Danish Foreign Ministry on Monday warned Danish citizens against traveling to Israel and several Muslim countries, including Syria.

A year ago, a Danish daily published cartoons of the Prophet, including one showing him with a bomb in his turban.

The caricatures, considered by the Muslims as blasphemous, sparked protests throughout the Islamic world and Danish embassies in several countries were attacked.

Last February, angry Syrians stormed the Danish embassy in Damascus and the diplomatic missions of Sweden, Chile and Norway were also damaged at the time.
