Trade and economic ties between Fiji and China are expected to be further strengthened with the newly established Fiji/China Business Council.
The Fiji Times, a Suva-based daily newspaper, Tuesday quoted the council patron and businessman James Ah Koy as saying the government has given sanction and support for the registration of the new body by the state.
James said President of the Fiji Chamber of Commerce Taito Waradi has agreed to be the council's first secretary general.
He said the Fiji/China Business Council has been spearheaded and sponsored by the Fiji Chinese Federation of Commerce and Trade.
Waradi called on officials dealing with business applications to learn the Chinese language.
