An oil painting of a Taiwan artist set a new auction record of Chinese oil painting in the world at 34.84 million HK dollars (4.49 million U.S. dollars on Monday's Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong.

The company said Taiwan painter Chen Chengbo's canvas painting "Danshui" pictured the scenery of a small town of Taiwan and drew attention from buyers. An Asian collector finally beat others with a price more than triple of the pre-sale estimation and set a new auction record for Chinese oil painting.

Besides, a piece of Taiwan sculptor Zhu Ming's work from "Taiji series" was bought by an American collector at about 8.3 million HK dollars (1.1 million U.S. dollars), also setting a record of Chinese modern sculptures under the hammer.
