Federer wins Japan Open title

понедельник, 09 октября 2006 16:50:33

Top-ranked Roger Federer from Switzerland eased past Britain's Tim Henman at the Japan Open men's singles final on Sunday to capture his ninth crown this season.

The Swiss needed only 67 minutes to blitz his opponent 6-3, 6-3, forcing 10th seed Henman into a wild forehand on his third match point.

Henman gifted Federer his first break with three straight double faults in the sixth game and the top seed closed out the first set with an ace.

Federer, playing in his first tournament since winning last month's U.S. Open, broke Henman again to take a 2-1 lead in the second set and never looked back.
