The Linhuaigang Flood Control Project, the first flood control project on China's third longest river, Huaihe River, was completed yesterday after five years of construction.
The project is expected to play a key role in controlling flooding on Huaihe River, one of China's most flood-prone rivers.
Located in the middle reaches of Huaihe River, the project consists of a 78-kilometer-long dam, a reservoir with storage capacity of 8.56 billion cubic meters, irrigation channels and sluices.
Functioning with other anti-flood mechanisms along the river, the project is designed to protect more than 666,000 hectares of farmland and 6 million local residents from floods in this region.
