A mail letter containing white powder was found in the New York offices of U.S. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, police said on Friday.
The letter they received had no return address and contained a white powder, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski.
Later police said the powder was not toxic, but an investigation would be carried out.
The U.S. Congress, a television news office in New York, and a tabloid newspaper in Florida received letters containing anthrax in the form of a white powder in 2001, and five people were killed in the incidents.
