Norms for "Chinese beauties" released

Are double-fold eyelids, a steep-bridge nose and a little charming mouth the criteria for a typical Chinese beauty? A data bank for three-dimensional survey statistics for cranial and facial bones has been set up in the Oral Cavity and Jaws Plastic Surgery Department of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital. Analyses of 170 beauties' skeletal statistics by experts show that the fairness of a human is determined by the harmony and symmetry of its facial skeletal system.

Associate Professor Zhang Haizhong, sorted out 170 cranial scannograms of left and right skeletal frames of pretty women of Han (or commonly known as Chinese" ethnicity aged 22 to 37 from among the 6,000-plus cranial CT scannograms in a decade's time and, through mathematical and statistical analyses via computers, set up a three-dimensional survey data bank for groups of attractive Chinese beauties.

By such statistical analyses, Zhang has become aware that the first thing in judging one's fairness is to observe whether one's cranial and facial skeletal system is harmonious and symmetric. Relevant data show that the cranial skeletal statistics of 95 percent of the beauties are focused on a very tiny zone, and three factors, namely, facial vertical ratio, facial horizontal ratio and the angle of side low jawbone (mandible) have to be taken into account.

Associate Professor Zhang acknowledged that what have a special bearing on the facial outline are the widths of cheekbone, temporal bone and low jawbone, which directly prop up one's face. And experts have defined the most ideal horizontal proportion: the ratio of cheekbone width to temporal bone width is 1:0.819, and the ratio of cheekbone width to mandible width is 1:0.678.

The data bank for the three-dimensional survey statistics for the cranial and facial bones of the groups of attractive Chinese beauties is still not able to provide specific, concrete data for the widths of the cheekbone and temporal bone, owing to disparities among individual figures, such as impact from the height of a person and the length of one's face.
