The Indonesian economy already recovered from the regional financial crisis in 1997 that hit the country particularly hard, the chief economic minister claimed Thursday.
"Indonesia has fully recovered. This is the most important message I would like to send to this forum," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Boediono said when addressing the Indonesia Regional Investment Forum (IRIF) here.
The economy has continued to grow in the last few years at the average of 4 percent to 5 percent and is expected to reach 6 percent this year, he said.
The government is upbeat to return economic growth back to the pre-crisis level of 7 percent by 2010, he said.
The government managed to tame the inflation, which is forecast to end at a mere 7 percent this year to support the monetary policy, while at the same time was making successful efforts to reduce deficit in the state budget, he said.
