Costa Rica nat'l soccer team to play Galician squad in Dec.

The Costa Rica national soccer team will play a friendly with a Galician squad in La Coruna, Spain, on Dec. 28, the Costa Rica Football Federation told media on Wednesday.

Victor Hugo Alfaro, a senior executive committee official said that the new team manager would use a "team of the future", as Costa Rica has agreed not to send the squad that went to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Costa Rica played Catalonia's regional squad early in 2006, ahead of the World Cup, losing 0-2 on May 24, in Barcelona's Terassa Olympic Stadium.

Alfaro also said that the Federation would name a new manager in two weeks, and has drawn up a shortlist of 10 candidates including Europeans, Costa Ricans and South Americans.

The new manager will begin work on Nov. 15. Costa Rica's national squad is currently under the leadership of Carlos Watson, who stepped in on Aug. 8, after Brazilian manager Alexandre Guiamaraes resigned following the team's poor World Cup showing.
