Minister calls for retiree's help in Brazil's air traffic crisis

Brazilian Minister of Defense Waldir Pires on Wednesday called for retired air traffic operators to join the team at the Air Traffic Control Center (Cindacta 1) in the country's capital city of Brasilia to attenuate the effects of the slowdown operation initiated on Friday Oct. 27.

Cindacta 1's operators made the slowdown operation since police authorities announced the possibility of operators having committed a mistake that contributed to the biggest aircraft disaster in Brazil's history, which killed 154 people on Sept. 29.

In a meeting with representatives of air traffic operators, the minister asked for the cooperation of the retirees, who would go through a training course. Pires denied that rehiring former operators would present any risk to air traffic in the country. Source: Xinhua
