Norwegians appear to be losing faith in the effectiveness of being a member of NATO, according to reports from Oslo on Wednesday.
The majority of Norwegians still believe NATO membership helps make the country safer, but this stance is on the wane, Norwegian Broadcasting reported.
In a new survey by AC Nielsen carried out for Folk og Forsvar ( Nation and Defense), 63 percent of those polled said they support Norwegian NATO membership, but this is a drop of 5 percent points from last year.
Fully 77 percent said they feel Norway should participate in a joint European security policy, with 51 percent seeing this as extremely important and 38 percent rating it "quite important,' according to the poll.
