6 prisoners escape after gunmen kill jail policemen in SW Pakistan

Six prisoners escaped from a jail in southwestern Pakistani town of Turbat after gunmen disguised as visitors killed two police guards and injured four others on Wednesday, local media reported.

The jail officials allowed them to meet visitors in the meeting room and during the meeting the disguised visitors opened fire on the jail officials killing two on the spot and injuring four others, according to state-run Associated Press of Pakistan.

Most of the escaped prisoners were notorious criminals, among whom one had been convicted for drug smuggling and awarded 25 years jail term, according to a local TV channel report.

A gunman was reportedly wounded in police firing but escaped with his accomplices.

Authorities have set up pickets on all the exit points of the district to arrest the culprits.

Turbat is some 600 km southwest of Quetta, the provincial capital of Baluchistan.
