Unknown gunmen kidnapped a senior judge near Iraq's northern city of Samarra, provincial police said on Wednesday.

"Sa'adoun Hassan al-Azzawi, deputy head of Tikrit's court of appeal, was abducted Tuesday night by gunmen while travelling in his car near Samarra City heading to Tikrit," Colonel Hassan Ahmed, from Salahudin provincial police told Xinhua.

The incident is the third of such attack recently targeted judges in north of Baghdad where militants kidnapped another judge of Dujail court near Tikrit and a third was killed near Samarra, some 120 km north of Baghdad, according to the source.
