Washington Wizards forward Darius Songaila will undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc and will be sidelined for up to three months.
Songaila, who originally suffered the injury while playing in the Basketball World Championship for the Lithuanian National Team.
"I am very disappointed that I will not be out there with my new team mates," Songaila said in a statement. "I plan to work hard and look forward to getting back on the court."
Songaila, a three-year NBA veteran, signed as a free agent with Washington last summer. He averaged a career-high 9.2 points per game last season with the Chicago Bulls.
