Militants killed, firing ends in India-controlled Kashmir city
Two suicide attackers were killed by the security forces early Thursday, ending a 22-hour gun battle in downtown Srinagar, summer capital of India-controlled Kashmir, Indo-Asian News Service reported.
Early Thursday one of the two militants jumped out of the window of the hotel where they had hidden since Wednesday morning, the local police said.
The militant fired from his automatic weapon, injuring one civilian and then was shot dead by the security forces.
The security forces found the body of the other militant in the hotel.
The two militants, hiding in the Standard Hotel, opened fire and hurled grenades upon the guards of a police headquarters located in downtown Srinagar Wednesday morning.
Two policemen were killed while trying to enter the hotel and seven people, including some civilians, were injured, the report said.
But according to Thursday's The Hindu, three policemen were killed and 10 people were injured including six civilians.
A caller had phoned a local news agency Wednesday claiming that the Al Mansoorian militant outfit was responsible for the attack and there were three militants inside the hotel.
