The death toll in violent clashes between supporters of two main parties in Bangladesh rose to 28 as four more people were killed in clashes across the country on Monday night and Tuesday.
At least four people were killed and 60 injured in clashes at different places across the country on Monday night and Tuesday as political rivalries continued in the transitional time, local news agency UNB reported Tuesday.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government ended its tenure on Oct. 27. According to the country's constitution, it will hand over the power to a caretaker government to conduct the next general elections due in January next year.
The former main opposition party Awami League (AL) imposed an three-day siege from Oct. 28 to press for appointment of a neutral Chief Advisor of caretaker government.
During the three-day siege, at least 24 people were killed and several thousands wounded in violent clashes between supporters of BNP and AL.
Bangladeshi President Iajuddin Ahmed on Sunday night assumed the function of Chief Advisor of the non-party caretaker government as major political parties failed to reach consensus on an acceptable person for the post.
