A roadside bomb killed two NATO soldiers and wounded two others on Tuesday in Waygal district of Nuristan province of eastern Afghanistan, Stacie Shafran, a spokeswoman of the military told Xinhua.

The bomb hit a patrol vehicle carrying some NATO soldiers, the spokeswoman said, adding that the wounded were taken to a U.S. military facility for treatment.

She declined to say the nationality of the soldiers, but the bulk of troops in eastern Afghanistan are Americans.

On Monday, one NATO soldier was killed in the southern Zabul province in a clash with militants, during which 55 insurgents also lost their lives.

Eastern and southern Afghan provinces have been hotbeds of Taliban and other militants, who clash with foreign and government troops frequently.

About 31,000 NATO troops are deployed in Afghanistan to fight militants and facilitate reconstruction.

Due to rising Taliban-linked violence this year, Afghanistan has plunged into the worst spate of bloodshed since the Taliban regime was toppled down nearly five years ago.

Over 2,500 people, mostly Taliban militants, have been killed in the country this year. Among the fatalities are over 110 foreign troops.
