China's 500,000 bridges

China has 500,000 bridges and starts building 10,000 more every year, making China a world "bridge power", according to an official from China's Communication Ministry.

China has the most varied bridges in the world; 300,000 are road bridges and 700 of those are over 1,000 meters long. The Sutong Bridge and Hangzhou Gulf Bridge, currently under construction, will break many world records. The theme of next year's international bridge conference, held in the United States, will be "The Year of China".
