China will produce more than 4.3 million tons of secondary metals this year, an increase of 19 percent from last year.
From January to August this year, China imported 4.07 million tons of three major scrap metals, including 2.946 million tons of copper scrap metal (down 7 percent from the same period last year), 1.074 million tons of aluminum scrap metal (almost identical to the amount imported last year), and 49,000 tons of zinc scrap metal (up 20 percent), according to China's Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Recycling Metal Branch.
China also recycled more than 1 million tons of scrap metal in the first eight months.
