China is "playing the game" on tariff reductions and opening its domestic market following its accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001, WTO Director General Pascal Lamy said on the 28th of October.
He also conceded that in a country of 1.3 billion people, it is unlikely every municipal authority and every border post follows the WTO rules.
China will be more exposed to pressure from US and EU over potential vulnerabilities because its five-year transition period is ending.
He stressed that China, the US and the EU had equal rights under the free trade system of the WTO.
