Tanzania needs China's technology and experience

Former Tanzanian ambassador to China said on Sunday that Tanzania is in dire need of China's technology and experience.

He made this comment in advance of the arrival of his country's delegation to the upcoming 3rd Beijing Summit & Ministerial Conference for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

He said that during the summit Tanzania would seek China's technology and experience in politics, economics and social development as well as discuss a sustainable framework for cooperation between China and the rest of African countries.

The delegation is led by Tanzanian president Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete. It consists of more than 50 business people. They hope to hold face-to-face discussions with their Chinese counterparts about technology, their experience in energy diversification, and the deep-processing of agricultural and sideline products.

The decreasing annual rainfall is pushing Tanzania to make use of natural gas, coal, solar energy, wind power and tide energy to generate electricity, rather than being dependent on waterpower.

Although traditionally an agricultural country, most of Tanzania's exports are raw materials. Tanzania badly needs expertise in deep-processing agricultural and side-line products to increase the added value of things such as cotton, cashew, coffee, tea, sisal, leather, cassava, paddy, wheat, mango, pawpaw, jackfruit and more, to increase farmers' income.

The delegation will also observe the drinking facilities that service people and domestic animals, farmland irrigation and agricultural breeding technology.
