The total amount of money in corruption cases and economic wrongdoings detected in Vietnam's ministries, sectors and localities nationwide so far this year has been nearly 510 million U.S. dollars, local media reported Tuesday. The money includes 7,909 billion Vietnamese dong (VND) (497.4 million dollars), 9.6 million dollars, and over 0.5 million euro ( more than 0.6 million dollars), of which 421.8 billion VND (26.5 million dollars) and 4.2 million dollars) were detected in corruption cases in nine ministries and sectors, Young People newspaper quoted a report of the Government Inspectorate as saying.
After investigating 14 projects and works with big investment, the Government Inspectorate found that the corruption and misused money there totaled 858.9 billion VND (54 million dollars) and 5.4 million dollars.
The number of state cadres who commit corruption and economic wrongdoings is higher than that in the same period last year. A total of 113 corrupt officers and staff in the police sector were disciplined between January and late October, said the report. Source: Xinhua
