Some 5,600 Belgian companies went bankrupt in the first nine months of this year, 5.8 percent less than in the same period last year, said VRT news on Monday.
The biggest decrease in bankruptcies during the first nine months of this year was in Flanders (-8.67 percent) followed by Wallonia (-5.72 percent). Brussels, on the other hand, showed an increase of 3.72 percent.
The most spectacular decreases were in wholesale, businesses and construction. The number of bankruptcies in hotels, cafes and restaurants, as well as in retail increased.
In the first nine months of this year, 11,167 people lost their jobs because of the bankruptcies, some 20 percent less than last year.
