Nigeria suspends ADC operating license after air crash

The Nigerian government will suspend the license of ADC airlines after one of its aircraft crashed in the country's capital of Abuja, a senior government official announced on Monday.

According to Nigerian Aviation Minister Babalola Borisade, the operating license of ADC, whose Boeing 737 crashed and killed 96 persons in Abuja on Sunday, will be indefinitely withdrawn.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had been empowered to shut airports each time it got advice on adverse weather conditions from meteorological agencies, the minister added.

He said the pilot of the ill-fated ADC plane refused to take professional advice to suspend flights because of stormy weather.

The neglect of such advice had been largely responsible for air mishaps, Borisade said, adding that his ministry has ordered NCAA to ensure that all airlines comply with aviation agencies' regulations and advice.

Meanwhile, the minister confirmed that nine persons survived the crash and were currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja.
