State auditor killed in drive-by shooting in Thai southern province

A state auditor in Thailand's southern border province Yala was killed in a drive-by shooting Monday morning, according to a report from Thai news group The Nation's website.

Sulaimee Jehloh, an auditor of the Yala Auditor Office, was attacked around 8 a.m. while riding his motorcycle to his office in the provincial seat.

He was shot once on his right temple and twice on his body and declared death at the Yala Provincial Hospital.

Witnesses told police that two men followed Sulaimee on a motorcycle and opened fire at him before fleeing the scene.

Almost daily violent incidents continued, after the Sept. 19 coup ousting Thaksin government, in Thailand's three southernmost provinces, Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, where the insurgent unrest renewed since early 2004 have killed over 1,700 people.
