Regional peace forum held in Dar es Salaam

Peace activists and researchers on Saturday gathered in Dar es Salaam for a regional forum on early-warning and prevention of war and conflict.

The forum, formally known as the African Union Regional Consultative Workshop Enhancing Collaboration on Peace and Security, drew participants from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and Tanzania.

Forum participants were expected to discuss ways on warning and preventing such happenings as war and conflict apart from setting up a practical and sustainable working relationship between the African Union and civil society organizations which were working in the field of peace and security at all levels in Africa.

The three-day forum, sponsored by the African Center for Peace and Development (ACPD), is the third such peace and security- oriented regional forum.

The ACPD held its first forum in 2000 in Accra of Ghana and the second forum in Abuja of Nigeria early this year.
