South Korean military conducted a division-scale landing exercise in the southeastern port city of Pohang on Friday with more than 8,000 marines.
The exercise involved more than 20 warships, 40 aircraft and 70 amphibious assault vehicles, according to the military.
The military also requisitioned an 800-ton civilian vessel to exercise transportation of marines from sea to beachhead in a bid to estimate the possibility and efficiency of using civilian vessels in wartime, the military said.
Friday's drill is the largest landing exercise that was independently launched by South Korean military.
