Harry Kewell has urged the Football Federation of Australia (FFA) to sort out a high-profile coach to lead the national team.
Graham Arnold was named caretaker coach after assisting Dutchman Guus Hiddink in this year's World Cup, where they advanced into the last 16.
FFA's initial search for a high-profile replacement for Hiddink failed to bear fruit but Kewell urged them to continue looking.
Kewell, back in Australia recovering from surgery, has not played for Australia since the World Cup and will miss next month's friendly against Ghana in London, but is hoping to play at next year's Asian Cup.
The Asian Cup is Australia's next major assignment after they booked their place in next year's finals in south-east Asia.
