An American sailor was killed Monday in the volatile province of Anbar, the U.S. military said in a statement on Wednesday.
"One Sailor assigned to Regimental Combat Team 7 died Monday from enemy action while operating in Al Anbar Province," according to the statement.
The statement provides no further details about the incident.
The latest death was part of a surge in U.S. fatalities in October, bringing the U.S. soldiers killed to about 90, the highest toll for any month this year.
More than 2,795 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
