The world's biggest book fair, attended by more than 7,200 exhibitors from 113 countries and regions, opened in Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The Chinese delegation, composed by 12 publishing house groups, presented 4,000 books in a 500-spare-meter area at the fair, which has a theme of "Education for the Future."

"With its new key focus 'Education for the Future,' the Frankfurt Book Fair sets out to draw attention to the growing importance of education in the age of digitization and globalization," Thomas Minkus, spokesman for the fair, told Xinhua.

The history of the Frankfurt Book Fair dates back to the 15th century. Frankfurt remained the central and undisputed European book fair city through to the 17th century.

In its first year after the war in 1949, the Frankfurt Book Fair registered 205 exhibitors from 3 countries and only 8400 books were on display and almost 15,000 people visited the fair.
