The 90,000 live sheep China is to export to Saudi Arabia are undergoing checks at quarantine and will be transported to Saudi Arabia at the end of October, according to information from the State Quality and Quarantine Administration.

The Order of Minister of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Agriculture announced on September 27 that live cattle and sheep from Inner Mongolia, China, may be exported to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is the biggest market for live cattle and sheep in the Middle East. It imports nearly six million sheep for slaughter every year. Saudi Arabia's lifting of the ban will have a positive effect on Middle Eastern countries, said a person concerned from the State Quality and Quarantine Administration.

China currently has approval to export cattle and sheep to 11 countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, North Korea, Thailand, Myanmar and Nepal.
