Chief of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah lawmakers said Wednesday Palestinian factions tend to form a coalition government in a period that doesn't exceed two weeks.
Azzam al-Ahmad said that President Abbas "will resort to use his authorities" to sack the Hamas-led government and call for early presidential and parliamentary elections.
"This trend has been emphasized two days ago in a meeting with all factions and parliamentary blocs because we can't keep waiting forever the formation of the government," al-Ahmad told Voice of Palestine radio.
Al-Ahmad's remarks were repeated one day after the Hamas-led government and the Secretary General of the People's Party denied that Abbas was going to sack the Hamas government after two weeks.
Al-Ahmad also said the executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) will convene soon to approve the final decision and ask Abbas to use his power.
Meanwhile, al-Ahmad denied reports about a new Arab initiative that was approved by Abbas and Hamas politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal.
"What was published is not an initiative," they were outlines known for all," said al-Ahmad, calling for forming the national unity government instead of "new initiatives."
