The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) unveiled its latest platform, the Bionix II Infantry Fighting Vehicle, at a commissioning event here Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean witnessed a synchronized assault by a battalion from the 4th Singapore Armored Brigade during a demonstration showcasing the enhanced firepower and networked capabilities of the Bionix II.

The maneuvers and firepower display were orchestrated using the army's Battlefield Management System.

The Bionix II infantry fighting vehicle, which is jointly developed by the SAF, the Defense Science and Technology Agency, and Singapore Technologies Engineering, is purpose-built as a network capable platform to enable it to operate effectively as part of the third Generation Army, the statement said.

It added that the new platform is also able to deliver more accurate and lethal firepower while providing enhanced crew protection.

The Singapore army is undergoing a transformation to the third Generation SAF (3G SAF) which levies heavily on cutting-edge technology and innovative operational concepts.
