At least 50 passengers mostly children and women were missing when a motor launch with about 100 passengers sank in the Meghna river in southern Munshiganj district of Bangladesh, about 25 km from Dhaka.

Local people recovered two bodies. They said that at least 50 passengers were still missing. The launch sank 30 yards deep under water after hitting a cargo vessel at about 9:30 am local time (3: 30 GMT).

Some of the passengers managed to swim ashore, but the fate of others remained uncertain.
