Romanian President Traian Basescu said on Sunday that his visit to India is aimed at consolidating political and economic ties between the two countries.
At the airport prior to his departure, the president said his two-day visit to India was set as one of the government's foreign policy priorities.
Strengthening economic ties will be one of his objectives for the visit as India, the second largest country in population, enjoys a special potential in investing in other countries, he said.
The two sides would sign several documents during the visit to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields, he added.
Basescu was scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart, Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and leaders of the ruling and opposition parties in the capital of New Delhi. He will also meet with Indian businessmen in Mumbai, the country's economic and financial center.
"Within the two meetings with business people, my objective is to convince them that Romania is a good place for investments," said Basescu.
The Romanian president would also take part in an economic forum sponsored by the Indian Federation of Chambers of Trade, the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Association of Chambers of Trade.
