Killing of Fatah member sparks new Palestinian internal fighting

понедельник, 23 октября 2006 05:03:04

Unknown Palestinian gunmen shot dead a security member in central Gaza Strip on Sunday, sparking a new wave of violence between Hamas and Fatah movements' gunmen, witnesses and medics said.

Mohammed Shehada, 27, a member of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, was shot dead with two bullets in the chest on Sunday.

Accusing Hamas-controlled Auxiliary Forces of opening fire at their son, Shehada's family along with a number of his colleagues blocked Saladin road that extends from southern Gaza Strip to the north.

Armed clashes erupted with the members of Hamas' Interior Minister Forces when the demonstrators tried to close the similar coastal road in western Gaza Strip, witnesses said.

Four people were wounded in the armed confrontations, Palestinian medics said.

Earlier at predawn Sunday, a Fatah member called Hassan Hassouna was also kidnapped by a group of militants in northern Gaza refugee camp of Jabalia, witnesses and security sources said.

The violence came one day after Egyptian mediators sponsored a deal between Hamas and Fatah to stop mutual kidnappings and all kinds of incitement.
