Thailand's ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will not seek a political asylum in Britain but will return to Thailand once the martial law is lifted, one of his aides said Sunday.
According to Thai news group The Nation, Noppadol Pattama, a legal adviser of Thaksin, told a press conference that it was not true that Thaksin would seek a political asylum in Britain.
"Thaksin does not want to seek a political asylum and he will return when the timing is right," Noppadol was quoted as saying.
He said Thaksin would not return now so the government and all groups should not worry.
"Thaksin also worries about the country's situation like other Thais," Noppodol said.
Noppadol said he talked to Thaksin over the phone and the former prime minister would like to thank all who sent him letters and postcards to express their concern for him.
