Egypt's Mubarak discusses Mideast developments with Rice

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held talks with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, focusing on the latest developments in the Middle East and ways to revive the stalled peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, the official news agency MENA reported.

The Mubarak-Rice meeting covered the latest regional developments with emphasis on security in Iraq and Lebanon, the problem of Darfur, Iran's nuclear issue and bilateral relations, said MENA.

Rice briefed Mubarak the results of her meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and of her talks with the foreign ministers of Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council member states.

These talks were aimed to breathe life into the Palestinian- Israeli peace talks and pave the way for a comprehensive regional peace move, according to MENA.

Rice arrived in the Egyptian capital from Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning on a two-day visit to Egypt as part of a regional tour.

After Egypt, Rice will fly to Israel and the Palestinian territories.
