A new medicine named "dfmo" has been given to sleeping sickness patients in Trypanosomiasis Hospital of Viana, in Angolan capital of Luanda.

The new medicine is given with physiological solution of sodium chloride and is less toxic and has the possibility to cure in 14 days, Angola Press Agency ANGOP Saturday quoted hospital manager, mother Deolinda, as saying.

She said the new medicine has substituted Arsobol, which is considered toxic.

"Arsobol, despite being toxic and causing collateral damages to patients, it takes months to cure a patient", she said.

Human African Trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, is a vector-borne parasitic disease, which is fatal if left untreated.
