Spain's F1 racer Fernando Alonso said on Friday that he will not hesitate to use his entire vehicles power to get the pole position, as well as a place in the podium, in 2006 championship's last Grand Prix, to be held on Oct. 22 at the Interlagos racetrack in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
"Our target is to start the race in the front position. However, I know that I will have to improve my cars performance," said Alonso, who only needs to score one point in the race on Sunday to win his second straight championship title.
Austrias Alexander Wurz scored the best timing at the practice on Friday at Interlagos. Germanys competitor Michael Schumacher, who comes second in the championship tally, had the sixth best result in the practice, over a hundredth of a second ahead of Alonso.
"It will be tough to get the pole, but we will do everything to get it," said the Spanish racer, reminding that the practice on Saturday Oct. 21 will define the positions from which all competitors will leave on Sunday.
Schumacher is also running for the 2006 title, which would be the eighth in his career and the last one before retiring from F1, but he will have to win the race to have chances of becoming champion, in case Alonso does not score.
