No tsunami warning was issued after a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 has struck near Vanuatu early Wednesday morning, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) radio reported.
U.S. Geological Survey has said that the epicenter was 165 kilometers under the seabed, 70 kilometers north-west of the island of Tanna and 150 kilometers south-east of Vanuatu's capital of Port Vila.
ABC radio quoted an official at the Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office as saying that no injuries or damage had been reported after the earthquake.
The earthquake occurred close to the fault line separating the Australian and Pacific plates of the earth's crust, where quakes and volcanic activity are common.
